The ICAEL Welcomes New Board Member
Louis Bezold, MD, FACC, FAAP, FASE


Louis Bezold, MD, FACC, FAAP, FASE
joins the ICAEL Board Of Directors as a representative of the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography, and has also served as an ICAEL Application Reviewer since 1999. Currently Dr. Bezold is the Director of Noninvasive Pediatric Cardiology at Kentucky Children's Hospital, at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington, Kentucky. He also serves on the faculty of the University as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics. A fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography, Dr. Bezold has been published extensively in numerous journals, abstracts and other publications.

Derek Fyfe, MD, PhD


Derek Fyfe, MD, PhD
is currently Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, Director of Fellowship Training in Pediatric Cardiology at Emory University, and Director of Echocardiography for the Sibley Heart Center, Cardiology, in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Fyfe is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology, receiving his training in pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic and in Pediatric Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic. He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Executive Committee of the Section of Cardiology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. Dr. Fyfe has published extensively in all areas of pediatric echocardiography and participated in the formulation of training guidelines for TEE in children. His pediatric echocardiography laboratory was the first ICAEL-accredited pediatric laboratory in the state of Georgia and is the only one accredited in Pediatric TEE and Fetal Echocardiography.

Kathy A. Kendall, RDCS


Kathy A. Kendall, RDCS (PE)
is the Manager and Technical Director of the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas. Following twelve years as a Pediatric Sonographer at Texas Children's Hospital, she has for the past two years managed a staff of seventeen within the lab and has continued to oversee training of fellows and new sonographers at Texas Children's. She has been registered with the ARDMS since 1995. Having served since 1999 as a regular reviewer for pediatric echo labs seeking to obtain or renew accreditation with the ICAEL, Ms. Kendall is interested in becoming more involved in defining Pediatric Echo laboratory protocols and promoting quality standards in echocardiography.

Helga Lombardo, RDCS


Helga Lombardo, RDCS
represents the American Society of Echocardiography on the ICAEL Board of Directors. She is the supervisor of the Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory, clinical lab, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. As the supervisor of a large laboratory inpatient-outpatient department, Ms. Lombardo is involved with the daily operations of the clinical lab. Along with her participation in the ASE, Ms. Lombardo is also very focused on education, training, and improving processes to provide the best care to patients. As an active participant at the local community college where she serves on their SDMS Advisory Board, Ms. Lombardo works to ensure that future sonographers are given the education and leadership necessary to prepare them for the future of ultrasound.
