SECTION
4 - EXAMINATION INTERPRETATION
Guidelines
for report text are now further defined:
A)
Report text must include comments on:
- Left
ventricle (size, global and regional function)
- Right
ventricle (size and global function)
- Right
atrium (size)
- Left
atrium (size)
- Mitral
valve (structure and function)
- Aortic
valve (structure and function)
- Tricuspid
valve (structure and function)
- Pulmonic
valve (structure and function)
- Pericardium
- Aorta
Note:
If any structure is not well visualized this should be noted.
The report text must be consistent with the quantitative data.
Where appropriate, this must include localization and quantification
of abnormal findings.
Part III
Adult Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) Testing
SECTION
3 - ELEMENTS AND COMPONENTS OF EXAMINATION PERFORMANCE
STANDARD
- Elements of Examination Performance
The
Standards now allow for the performance of a 2-D/Doppler
transesophageal examination "in any sequence".
Related
to 3.2.2, Elements of Study Quality, adherence to the laboratory
specific and appropriate policy has also been modified to include
"except for sequence". The following was added:
H)
Imaging of at least one right and one left pulmonary
vein, with Doppler when appropriate.
STANDARD
- Components of Transesophageal Echocardiograms
Under
3.3.6, related to the complete examination and required standard
views, the following changes have been made to eliminate the
requirement for imaging the right atrial appendage:
G)
Multiple imaging planes of the right atrium, left atrium,
and left atrial appendage with appropriate Doppler.
Part IV
Adult Stress Echocardiographic Testing
SECTION
3 - ELEMENTS AND COMPONENTS OF EXAMINATION PERFORMANCE
Related
to 3.5, stress echocardiogram report components and specifically
report text, pre-exercise segmental wall motion and post-exercise
wall motion comparison have each been clarified by the addition
of "global" systolic function.
In Conclusion
The
ICAEL looks forward to feedback from accredited facilities,
applicant laboratories, application reviewers and site visitors
about the new 2007 ICAEL Standards. The organization
strives to publish standards that facilitate the continuous
improvement of the quality of care provided by echocardiography
laboratories.
