Washoe Medical Center is a dynamic 530-bed hospital (expanding
to 830 beds in 2007), regional referral center and level II
trauma center located in Reno, Nevada.
Our
cardiovascular laboratory has been ICAVL accredited in all vascular
testing areas since 1998 and now it is a great honor for us
to be the first ICAEL accredited laboratory in the state of
Nevada.
The
decision of the non-invasive cardiovascular services department
to apply for ICAEL accreditation was based on our desire to
align ourselves with the nation's premier echocardiography laboratories
and the fact that we regard ICAEL accreditation as the ultimate
stamp of quality for echocardiography laboratories.

Accreditation
and the process of it has benefited us in many ways, from looking
at and re-evaluating all of our policies and procedures to formalizing
consistent quality assurance policies and procedures. We think
that the primary overall benefit to us is that it forces and
encourages us to be consistently excellent in the services that
we provide to the patients, the hospital and the community.
I will admit that the application process is not an easy task
for any department team, but that said, we completed the process
from start to submission in only three months.
