All Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE) must be either (1) performed and interpreted by sonographers and physicians that have demonstrated minimum entry level competency by being credentialed in echocardiographic technology, or (2) performed in facilities with laboratories accredited in echocardiographic technology. Examples of appropriate minimal level competency certification for sonographers who perform echocardiograms include:

• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential for personnel

• Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) for laboratory accreditation
