that require ICANL accreditation. This website provides access

The IAC Receives Designation by CMS as Accrediting Organization for MIPPA
JANUARY 26, 2010 | As part of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA), by January 1, 2012, all nonhospital providers of advanced diagnostic imaging, inclusive of Nuclear Medicine, MR, CT and PET, must obtain accreditation as a condition for reimbursement. The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to accredit suppliers seeking to furnish the technical component (TC) of advanced diagnostic imaging services under the Medicare program. ICANL Announces the Release of the 2010 ICANL Standards
MARCH 2010 | The 2010 ICANL Standards become effective July 1, 2010. Laboratories may apply using either the new Standards or the 2008 version for a period of three months. Applications submitted after October 1, 2010 must be in compliance with the 2010 ICANL Standards.

ICANL Welcomes New Sponsoring Organization ASRT
FEBRUARY 2010 | The ICANL is pleased to announce the addition of a new sponsoring organization, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). The ASRT is represented by Cathy Tarcson, BS, RT(N) on the ICANL Board of Directors. Cathy has been an active site visitor/auditor and reviewer since 2007. She is currently an assistant professor of Nuclear Medicine at Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio. For more information about ASRT, visit www.asrt.org.

Emerging Technologies
JUNE 1, 2009 | The ICANL announced that it will accept accreditation applications from laboratories utilizing new technologies and other novel imaging approaches that, to date, are not included in the guidelines published by the professional societies.

CMS to Conduct Hospital Revalidation Initiative
MARCH 2010 | The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will conduct a revalidation effort that will ensure current enrollment information from all hospitals. The revalidation focuses on hospitals that have not updated their enrollment information with Medicare in more than 6 years.

Applications Will Now Be Accepted At Any Time throughout the Year
In response to customers’ expressed needs, beginning April 1, 2009, laboratories may submit applications at anytime via the Online Accreditation application. Read More>>
Changes for CME
Lack of CME is the most common deficiency among applicant laboratories. In an attempt to assist laboratories with improving upon this deficient area, the ICANL Board of Directors has determined that beginning July 1, 2009, first time applicant laboratories will no longer be granted one year provisional status for inadequate CME.Read More>>
Reminder:
Nuclear Cardiology Case Study Selection Requirements Have Changed
Effective January 1, 2009, laboratories applying for accreditation in RMPI are no longer required to follow the random selection criteria when submitting RMPI case studies. Instead, laboratories are required to represent their best work through submission of five (5) complete RMPI studies. In addition labs are required to submit 2 abnormal reports from each interpreting physician listed in the application.
